How did this grant contribute to the realization of your project in regard to artistic exchange, local cultural development and/or the promotion of cultural diversity?

This trip consisted of joining the ensemble I Sassofonisti del Mediterreaneo and present a project at the Saxophone World Congress and Festival (SaxOpen 2015). The main aim of the congress is to share and discuss latest research and projects related to the saxophone. Therefore, the environment surrounding this congress provided the ideal setting to make new contacts and strengthen old ones.

How does exchange, networking and international contacts contribute to the development of your artistic and cultural project?

The most important contacts made included high-calibre saxophonists and tutors with whom current and near future projects were discussed, most of which will take place in Malta. Friendships were also created with the members of the ensemble themselves, some of whom are saxophone-related activity organizers in their own region themselves. Presently, we are discussing a possible partnership with these regions and Malta, which discussions look very promising. The congress also helped in meeting other top-notch musicians who presented other projects, with whom future plans of a more personal-development nature were discussed. As highlighted previously, discussions are already underway with the C.I.S. group for a possible partnership. One of the projects we are discussing will involve Italian and Maltese saxophonists, hoping for a long-term strong relationship with the artists of these two countries.

Can you elaborate on the learning and knowledge you have gained and shared throughout this experience?

Yes, mobility has had a major impact on my artistic competences and skills. With particular reference to the current mobility project, it has had the following effect: New Techniques – the project was a means to improvement personal artistic techniques, especially with regards to ensemble playing. Intercultural competences – being that the project involved members coming from various Mediterranean countries, it was an opportunity to discuss and explain the different traditions and cultures, especially those related to music, food and language. Sense of initiative – Being one of the oldest members, in many occasions I had to take on a leadership and decision-making role. Many were the times were I was sought for help and advice.
