How did this grant contribute to the realization of your project in regard to artistic exchange, local cultural development and/or the promotion of cultural diversity?
The name of the project is “Ziyara”, which means pilgrimage to a saint’s tomb in Darija. The project is inspired by the trance states occurring in the rituals of the Moussem of Sidi Ali (Morocco). The aim of my trip was to interview and record the experiences of devotees. What happens in their journey? Where do they go? What encounters do they face? The goal was to create a video that combines talks with people who have experienced these trances first hand with experimental images reflecting the places they visit or are taken into.
How does exchange, networking and international contacts contribute to the development of your artistic and cultural project?
I had the possibility to show my work at Centre Civic Fort Pienc (Barcelona) and C.C.Guinardó (Barcelona). With Culture Vultures, my partner, we discussed the possibility to organise an exhibition in Morocco.
Can you elaborate on the learning and knowledge you have gained and shared throughout this experience?
What the trip has offered me was not so much a technique, but an openness to other beliefs and ways of understanding reality and life.
